I recently learned a valuable lesson on Twitter. Don’t announce to the world that you’re looking for help. It’s the kind of generic message that opens the door for a lot of junk mail. You would think this would be the prefect way to meet social media savvy candidates but at the end I got a few interesting applications but all in all I got mostly junk.
So here’s the blog post to explain it all. Here’s what I’m looking for. Basically I am looking for a newer version of me. That sounds funny even writing it but I remember how much drive and determination I had when my career was just starting. Let’s say I worked it. Yes, I do accredit to being at the right place at the right moment at pivatol points in my career but still… I got myself in that position and I did it with very little to go on. I learned that building the right relationships early in my career would pay off in the long run… I should have put money on it.
I’m excited to report that things are starting to get too busy for just myself to handle. Although my clients are seeking my strategies sometimes it takes a strong team to implement them. I work with some very exciting projects and clients and there will never be a dull moment “on the job”.
So here’s what I’m looking for:
1. Someone with PR skills. You may not have years in the business but if you have a bit of journalism behind you (enough to know how a news room operates) and you have some media relations experience (you know how media relations works!!) then I’m interested in finding out more about you.
2. You must be extremely organized and great at multitasking. You see my brain never shuts off and I pretty much commit myself to my clients 24-7 (it’s the social media addict in me) so I need my staff to be the same way. I won’t be calling you at all hours of the day or anything but you can bet you’ll get emails, text messages and blackberry messenger pings at all hours of the day (and night). I only want to tell you something once and then I need you to run with it. Make it your own and aim big.
3. Must be a social media addict. (Like me) My PR strategies use a large social media component. I must be able to rely on you to take charge of many aspects of our clients’ social media. This is very important If you know your stuff then you should already be quite active on most of the popular sites. I am looking forward to reading your profiles, tweets and updates.
4. Must know Wordpress. You don’t have to be a coding genius or anything but you must know your way around a Wordpress dashboard. Bonus points if you have web creation and design background. That would be fantastic!
5. You must be tech savvy. I’d prefer it if you were an Apple user but will be forgiving to PC candidates that have an impressive CV. Know your power point, excel and Word. And if you can work your way around Photoshop that’s a big fat BONUS!
6. Living in Vancouver, BC is a big asset.. however… if you are the perfect candidate I’m willing to consider a long distance relationship.
If you think this describes you to a tee then I’d love to hear from you. Send me your website, twitter address and a recent photo and let me know what your availability is. This is a contract to contract position or on part-time retainer basis.I’m not in a rush so much as waiting for the perfect candidate. Entertainment, film and/or gaming experience or background an asset as well!
