My Professional Life

One of the many mics I used in radio

Born and raised in Victoria I was well on my way to being a lawyer, or if my father had his way the next Prime Minister, when I literally “stumbled” upon my first job in radio in 1996… essentially by accident really. It was at AM900 on the oldest all-talk station on Vancouver Island.  What started off as their “Girl Friday” on an all talk entertainment show soon led to an on-air position, when a traffic reporter became sick and I filled in. You could even say from there the rest is history, literally. I followed my new calling and stayed in radio as a traffic reporter, news reporter, producer and commercial talent in the Victoria radio market as well as on a couple Vancouver radio stations for the next 5 years.

In 1999, during my time in Vancouver radio, I started and hosted the Open Mic Nights at the Backstage Lounge in Granville Island. Every Monday night for 2 years I grew this open stage night passion project of mine from a small audience to a fantastically large turnout, by the end of my run. Of course it was never hard to fill the night with willing musicians wanting their 15 minutes of fame. With a real mixing board and sound technician on my team I spent every magical Monday night performing and presenting some of the city’s best sidewalk jammers. The open mic Mondays still continue at the Backstage Lounge ten years later.

The launch team of the New VI

In 2001 I was on the first team that launched the New VI, the last of the Chum New-network channels in Canada. As entertainment host, news anchor, editor and producer I had the opportunity to interview numerous musical and film artists. My favourite memories were as host of  “Inside Pandora’s Box”. I helped produce a live to tape performance show featuring emerging artists such as Teagan and Sarah, Big Sugar, Bif Naked, and Hawksley Workman. Working with a live audience and having the opportunity to present some of Canada’s best talent was a real thrill for me and certainly a career highlight.

In the last few years I shifted my focus to being a PR/Communications specialist and social media expert (with a little a film actor and voice work on the side), managing large and exciting media campaigns for the entertainment and gaming industry. With my infatuation with all things on the internet I have grown a strong following of my work on the Web. Being a popular blogger, photographer and social media enthusiast comes with responsibilities. There are rarely moments when I don’t spend time engaging in conversations online or working on a PR campaign big or small. It’s what makes me the news and information junkie that I am.

2006 David Foster & Friends Press Conference

In my PR career I directed media and public relations campaigns for the largest publicly traded gaming company in Canada as well as in the casino division of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, both as casino marketing and communication expert.

I have managed PR for extravagant casino openings, A-list celebrity performances and appearances, A-list celebrity events and press conferences, as well as crisis management issues and PR damage control. My strategy is unique to my experience as a former member of the media. I have strong ties to the media in BC, Canada and the USA. Gaming and Entertainment PR are the aces up my sleeve.

Today I try and choose contracts that inspire me.

I take an authentic and modern approach to your PR campaign and strategy and I look forward to working with you soon.
